About Us

Our faculty is an educational institution which provides undergraduate and graduate education in a 3-floors building with a closed area of ​​3.071 m2 in its 41.425 m² campus and has modern educational facilities.
Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Fethiye Faculty of Health Sciences was established with the decision of the Council of Ministers dated 18.04.2001 and numbered 2001/2351. However, it was named as “Fethiye School of Health” until 2016. Yet, in accordance with the decision of the Council of Ministers on Establishment, Closure and Renaming of Institutes, it was renamed as  Fethiye Faculty of Health Sciences , published in the Official papers dated 03.08.2016 and numbered 29790.
 
In the 2002-2003 Academic Year, our faculty started its educational activities with 30 students studying at the Nursing Department. In the 2003-2004 Academic Year, the Department of Health Officer was opened. In accordance with the provisional article II of the Laws on the Amendment of the Nursing Law published in the official newspaper dated 02.05.2007 and numbered 26510, the Health Officer Department was merged with the Nursing Department.
 
 Pursuant to Article 7 / d-2 of Law No. 2547, amended by Law No. 2880, the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at the meeting of Higher Education Executive Board on 11.05.2011, Health Management at the meeting on 20.03.2013 and Physiotherapy at its meeting on 12/03/2014 and Rehabilitation Department were agreed upon to be opened.
 
In the 2015-2016 Academic Year, the Distance / Formal Education Program for the completion of graduate degree in the field of health was completed.
 
In the meeting of the Higher Education Council dated 30.10.2018, due to the lack of sufficient number of teaching staff, the Health Officer Department and the Health Management Department (Health Institutions Administration) were closed in accordance with the Article 7 / d-2 of the Law no.
 
In the Fall Semester of 2018-2019 Academic Year; The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics started its educational activities with 62 students.
 
With the decision of the Higher Education Executive Board, the Department of Language and Speech Therapy  and the Department of Gerontology was opened within our faculty respectively on 16/01/2019 and on 25/03/2020.
 
Our faculty; In addition to providing undergraduate education in the Department of Nursing and the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, graduate education activities of the present departments are continuing.
 
The faculty provides theoretical and practical education and is organized in accordance with the national core education program, International European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) standards and Bologna harmonization process. In addition, the faculty curriculum has been expanded to meet national and environmental needs with the variety of elective courses included in the curriculum; is sufficient to train students in accordance with the requirements of the profession. In addition, a protocol was signed between Muğla Provincial Health Directorate and Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Rectorate for the hospitals and other health institutions and organizations in Fethiye to enable hands-on training of Nursing Department.
 

The laboratories of our faculty are as follows;

Department of Nursing Application Laboratory: It is important that the theoretical knowledge including human health protection development, treatment, care and rehabilitation initiatives are transformed into skills in accordance with humanistic and ethical values, and it is important that the students apply their theoretical knowledge to psychomotor skills by applying them in their original environments. For this purpose, the practices in the vocational skills laboratory constitute an important basis for acquiring professional principles. The Department of Nursing is equipped with technological materials and mannequins in order to bring them closer to the clinic. The laboratory has a simulation patient model and a patient bed that provides the opportunity to work on these models. For each group working in the laboratory, there are medical equipment for basic human needs applications, partial model that allows invasive intervention, patient bed and equipment arranged close to the hospital environment. The laboratory is designed to provide students with the environment in which they can apply nursing practices specific to body systems such as hygienic care applications, oral and parenteral drug applications, nutrition and excretory system applications. Students have the opportunity to practice with models in the closest to reality without working with the patient. Applications are carried out on mannequins under the supervision of instructors. In 2018, significant investments were made to improve its technological infrastructure.
 
Department of Nutrition and Dietetics Research and Application Laboratory: The students are equipped with theoretical knowledge about nutritional science, nutritional elements, food groups, functional foods, nutrients preparation, cooking and serving in the framework of the curriculum to teach the changes in food applications. Qualified research and development and innovation studies in the fields of nutrition and practices for dietary treatments in adult diseases such as obesity, cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, diabetes, cancer, celiac disease and pediatric diseases are carried out. In the laboratory, dietitian students can be given the opportunity to apply what they have learned at the theoretical stage, and it is possible to examine the nutritional value of foods and the diseases that may be caused by insufficient and unbalanced nutrition. In addition to the benches, the laboratory includes protein determination device, UV spectrophotometer, micro plate reader, ash oven, magnetic stirrers, oven, refrigerator, precision scales, homogenizer, pH-meter and so on. Efforts are underway to improve the existing facilities of the laboratory and to create an adequate infrastructure.

With the vision of assuring Ataturkist, contemporary and universal values ​​with as of the goals of Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University, our main goal is to train prospective health care professionals who can work as a caregiver, educator, researcher and consultant in the treatment and rehabilitation of health disorders and who can protect the health of an individual, family and society.
