About Us

Our faculty is an educational institution offering undergraduate and graduate programs in a modern, three-story building with a total indoor area of 3,071 m², located on a 41,425 m² campus. The facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art educational resources.

Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Fethiye Faculty of Health Sciences was established by a decision of the Council of Ministers on April 18, 2001, numbered 2001/2351. However, it was named “Fethiye School of Health” until 2016, when it was renamed "Fethiye Faculty of Health Sciences" in line with the decision of the Council of Ministers on the Establishment, Closure, and Renaming of Institutes. This decision was published in the Official Gazette on August 3, 2016, numbered 29790.

Our faculty began its educational activities in the 2002-2003 academic year with 30 students enrolled in the Nursing Department. In the 2003-2004 academic year, the Health Officer Department was established. However, under the provisions of the amended Nursing Law, published in the Official Gazette on May 2, 2007, numbered 26510, the Health Officer Department was merged with the Nursing Department.

In accordance with Article 7/d-2 of Law No. 2547, as amended by Law No. 2880, the Higher Education Executive Board approved the establishment of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics on May 11, 2011, the Department of Health Management on March 20, 2013, and the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation on March 12, 2014.

In the 2015-2016 academic year, a distance/formal education program for the completion of a graduate degree in the field of health was launched. At the Higher Education Council meeting on October 30, 2018, due to an insufficient number of teaching staff, the Health Officer Department and the Health Management Department (Health Institutions Administration) were closed under Article 7/d-2 of the law.

In the Fall Semester of the 2018-2019 academic year, the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics resumed educational activities with 62 students.

Subsequently, the Department of Language and Speech Therapy was established on January 16, 2019, and the Department of Gerontology on March 25, 2020, both approved by the Higher Education Executive Board.

Our faculty currently offers undergraduate education in the Nursing and Nutrition and Dietetics departments, and graduate programs continue in the respective fields. The faculty provides both theoretical and practical education, aligning with the national core education program, the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS), and the Bologna process.

The curriculum is designed to meet national and regional needs through a range of elective courses and is sufficiently comprehensive to prepare students for professional requirements. Additionally, a protocol was signed between Muğla Provincial Health Directorate and Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University to allow Nursing Department students to receive hands-on training in hospitals and other health institutions in Fethiye.

Laboratories:
Nursing Practice Laboratory: This lab focuses on transforming theoretical knowledge about health protection, treatment, care, and rehabilitation into practical skills. It is equipped with technological materials and mannequins to simulate clinical environments. The lab includes patient models, hospital-like beds, and equipment for basic human needs and invasive interventions, providing students with realistic practice opportunities before working with actual patients. Students perform these exercises on mannequins under the supervision of instructors. Significant technological upgrades were made in 2018.

Nutrition and Dietetics Research and Application Laboratory: Students gain theoretical knowledge about nutritional science, food groups, functional foods, and dietary practices. Research and innovation in nutrition, particularly in managing adult diseases such as obesity, cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, diabetes, cancer, celiac disease, and pediatric conditions, are also conducted. The lab is equipped with devices such as protein analyzers, UV spectrophotometers, microplate readers, precision scales, and other tools. Efforts are ongoing to enhance the lab's infrastructure.

Goal:
In addition to academic instruction, one of our primary goals is to prepare students for real-world challenges. Guided by Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University's vision of fostering Atatürkist, contemporary, and universal values, we aim to train future health professionals who can serve as caregivers, educators, researchers, and consultants in treating and rehabilitating health conditions while promoting the health of individuals, families, and society.
